To Quote Counting Crows....

{Glorious Sunday Morning}

"I'm In Love, I'm in Love, I'm in Love, I'm in Love, I'm in Love, I'm in Love, Accidentally in Love, Accidentally in Love. "

My hunny surprised me this morning. He told me that Sarah wanted to talk to me before church so I should get there early this morning, so I did. And I waited and there was a knock on the church door and I open it and there is Sarah...with Dave right behind her. Of course I first said "I told you so!" because I had guessed earlier this week that he would be at church on sunday and he denied it. Then I called him a liar...but all was forgiven very very very quickly. He only stayed for the church service because he had to work but it was nice to have someones hand to hold. My goodness I love surprises and my goodness I love him. I am so happy right now!

Pockets: Holders of Keys, Lipbalm and Memories {How Cheesy Was That!?}

{Dry-Cleaned Ticket Stub}

Well as I was cleaning my apartment/looking for my student card I happened apon a pocket. The pocket of my leather jacket filled with some fluff and throat candies and...a ticket stub. A ticket stub from March 16th 2005 when Dave and myself saw Constantine. This of course does not bring memories back to you but it does to me.

When I went up to see Dave in March I hadn't seen him since November 2004 which was obviously painful. Also this was my trip to visit Laurier for the first time (I still thought I was going to Ryerson). Also this was a three day escape from home.

It was a wonderful three days but at the end of it I cried so hard...I remember not wanting to wake Dave's parents up with my sobs the night he had to drive me back to my Aunts which meant I was leaving the next day.

I remember him making fun of our tour guide on the Laurier tour and me thinking "this would be a nice second choice" but by the end of the trip thinking that I should go here instead of Ryerson after all.

I remember getting my acceptance to Laurier the day I toured it, with Matt calling me and telling me and me yelling at him then feeling really really bad and apologizing. I love my little brother.

Its kind of funny that I think back and remember all this just by finding this dry-cleaned ticket stub in a pocket.

I AM... a University Student

{Institutionalized}
I am a university student...
I wait to do laundry till I run out of important some may say essential undergarments
I get excited when frozen pizza is on sale
I love in a non platonic way my coffee maker
I rather sleep in till 12 and stay up till 1 then hold regular hours
I sleep according to my classes (if I have an 8:30am class and then a break I will be napping)
I have learned how to drift off in public places
I have learned to love the clipboard to hold my papers
I know what it is like to not sleep
I stir my coffee with a knife when I don't do dishes
I eat with plastic utensils when I run out of knifes
I procrastinate
I do laundry in the bathtub
I can say "fuck" around my professors and not have to worry about getting sent to the "office"
I have learned to love instant food or starve
I hate the government more than ever for various reasons

Feel free to add your own...

I Can't Be Accountable

{Cinematic Horror}

The scene: young woman, about 18 or possibly older works a John McDermont Concert at the merchandise booth.
Enter: mob of John McDermont crazed adults who don't know how to make a line.
We now watch as the young woman slips rather quickly into bitchy insanity.

At the end of the night we watch as the young womans' self esteem plumits as she realizes she can't count money and comes up short. Next: her boss and the band manager both look at her like a common criminal. Reaction: I want to go home. Time: Midnight...8.5 hours before a midterm she has not studied enough for.

A true story.

5:00am the next day: Young woman awakes and starts to study...but will it be enough?
Cut to 8:45 am: Young woman writing her midterm, gets to multiple choice and resigns herself to the fact that perhaps no, there was not enough studying done but if all else fails she can go home soon and sleep.

Pure blissful sleep.

Sleep she has not had enough of in recent days.

Sleep is wonderful.

She now likes work a little less.

Even though she makes $8.40 an hour.

Too much to do for one young woman who works.

Oh well, she is punished for taking time off and only works not as much in November.

She has to do laundry - the end.

Commander In Chief

{I rock this bitch}
Who's the boss? I'm the boss.

Who is editor/anal retentive/control freak of the BluePrint?! I am!

And who looks very stylish today? THAT WOULD BE ME.

Life goals: accomplished.

Well not really but this is very very exciting. For my journalism project I am going to be editor of BluePrint my very first magazine which we will actually publish and distribute and hopefully get me good grades, awesome clippings and not kill me in the process. All loftly goals yes but its me I can do anything.

Except get motivated to study for my midterm that is. I just can't do it so I'm doing anything else instead of what I should be doing. Alas, I procrastinate again.

But besides that horrible moot point I am so excited about my paper. And the staff seems to be really good. So yeah for that.

Oh and I found out I make $8.40 an hour! WOW. I thought I only made $7.45! GO CITY JOB!

Good Samaritian Rewarded with Pastry

{Pastry Thwarts All}
The other day - it felt like Sunday but it was actually Thursday when I went to work I encountered a problem that I could solve. One of the little ol' ladies at my work had an apple tree that dropped hundreds of apples but being of age could not pick them up herself so they rotted and ruined her large lawn. I saw a solution: me being of age to pick up apples would indeed go pick them up for her, dispose of the rotten apples and take the nice ones since she wouldn't have them and do something helpful with them. So that is what I did and apples where retrieved. They were brought home and with the help of Colleen were in the next two days transformed into magical pies. Magical you say? Yes, magical - because they were a solution. Solutions are magical, especially helpful solutions. A problem - apples too many - turned into pies of six. Pies of six were distributed into those in need of pastry. Pastry was consumed. Hunger was solved. The world is at peace.

Britney Spears and the Bible Go Hand in Hand 1,050,000 Times

{Toxic Indeed}

Now for an expirement: who gets more hits...Britney Spears or the Bible?

Britney Spears (also known as the Angel of Death and Bad Taste): 51,500,000 hits
The Bible (also known as the Word of God): 166,000,000 hits

Well perhaps we aren't going to hell in a hand basket, thank God. Still the Bible only registered about 3x the amount of hits of Ms. Spears.

Perhaps even still more interesting is how many hits for Britney Spears + the Bible located on the same site? Hmmm.

The result? 1,050,000

Some interesting snipets:

“Pop singer Britney Spears has reportedly attended a church service where she and her mother cried, hugged and responded to an altar call.” “The report states a television crew was filming the service, and some speculated Spears was merely trying to get publicity.”
http://worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=37047

"A BIBLE FOR BRITNEY SPEARS? Revolve is a new Testament for teenage girls designed to resemble a fashion magazine.”
http://goliath.ecnext.com/comsite5/bin/pdinventory.pl?pdlanding=1&referid=2750&item_id=0199-3381291&words=Bible_Britney_Spears

Funniest snipet? On the second page of my yahoo search was the link for... Church of Satan: Official Website! www.churchofsatan.com Point Made.

Maybe I'm A Lonely Man In the Middle of Something that He Doesn't Really Understand

{Make Media Not War}

Have you ever read anything by Julian Barnes? You should, I promise. He has spawned one of my great love affairs, that is the one with the public library. Anyways, just read this...its quite intelligent I think and its from one of his short stories intitled the Revival.

" When did you last have your hands kissed? And if you did, how do you know he was any good at it? (Futher, when did anyone last write to you about kissing your hands?) Here is the argument for the world of reunciation. If we know more about consummation, they knew more about desire. If we know more about numbers, they knew more about despair. If we know more about boasting, they knew more about memory. They had foot-kissing, we have toe-sucking. You still prefer our side of the equation? You may well be right. Then try a simpler formulation: if we know more about sex, they knew more about love."
Don't ask me what this post is about, I get all dreamy after reading a good book resulting in a craving for good coffee, a thick blanket, a notebook, an inky pen and perhaps a moonlit room.
This is a horrible mood to study in because you can't study when you are like this. You just want to write and read and think about love and God and nature and futures and pasts and everything important that will not be on your exam on tuesday.
It makes me want to listen to songs like "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", "Halleluija", anything by Death Cab for Cutie or anything with strange deep lyrics and less than 40 beats per minute.
I have such strange moods and the silliest things like books effect them. I have just told you of one mood jump started by good deep books but there are others.
Example...
If I were to watch a program on home decorating, I immediately start cleaning house, rearranging furniture and planning my dream kitchen.
If I watch a commercial for weight loss I start to plan my exercise routine but if say I happened to read about political scandals in the next moment I would be energized to save the world.
This had led me to a particulary horrible realization: we are what we read, watch or encounter. Well at least I am.
Now think of this...if you were to grow up in an environment that did not have any form of media - no television, no music, no books what would you create. If you were sat in this room void of media but given instruments, empty notepads etc what would come out? You would have no musical influences but were given training would a new genre of music be discovered? What about you were taught the rules of writing but given nothing to read, what would you write. How would you dance? How would you sing? What media-less, non influenced creations would emerge?
A thought experiment, yes. A possible reality, no.
Unfourtunately we will never know anything new. As was said, "there is nothing new under the sun". Where did this saying come from? The Bible.
Ecclesiasties 1:9. Ancient wisdom, regurgated for my own use in the realm of the internet thousands of years later. Bible as the oldest popular form of media? Hmm, interesting concept.
"What has been will be again,
what has been done will be done again;
there is nothing new under the sun."

Flashback Elegy

[Bookwormis Extradordonaries]

Today I was reminded once again how some things never change (some certainly do but that is for another post) and how comforting that can be at times.

Today as I was walking home from the library clutching my two text treasures I saw myself in my minds eye and took pause. Freeze frame that moment and see me with my curly hair, skirt and nose in a new book. Other details such as the credit card in my wallet, my height or the fact I'm returning from a University lecture in Brantford are not important. Compare those three details to me age at age 6,7,8,9 or 10 and they would be the same. Regardless of how I change I'm still a bookworm, still have curly hair and still like to be girly (and twirl in my skirts). This is so comforting because I realize I am still me internally though my outward appearance has changed. I'm still Holly who was teased every Christmas season in grade school for my name, I'm still the little girl who likes to get dressed up for church and I'm still the smarty pants who sometimes prefers human company to a good book for hours on end. The library is still a treasure trove and I still read books adults think are too old for me. I'm still me and I rejoice in this. I have remained authentic to myself in a world of plasticity; congratulations abound as I pat myself on the back.

A Post is a Post is a Post

[yaking of no consequence]
Quick rants
- a shout out to the Australian Queen promoter who touched my ass twice; if I was any braver I would go ape and slam sexual harassment on YOUR ass. Luckily for you I'm not.
- a shout out to the crew of Queen which I worked/saw tonight: good job but fake boobs don't suit men with hairy chests.
- to Christine: Engaged! Engaged! How engaging! Hurry up and wait eh?
- to my little Buddy: I miss you - but don't give pizza guys $14 tips
- to my train partner: nice talkin' to ya - alas we did not meet again. oh well.
- to my credit card: you sneaky little fiend, you shall be worn out by year end and I shall have to do all the dirty work. Bah to you!
- to my bedroom: I love sleeping with you but the restaurant downstairs makes you smell of tofu. How very strange - is there anything you can do about it?
- to my loving parents: you were very nice to me this weekend and it was good to be home. I hate saying goodbye.
- to Lifehouse: your song makes me cry so STOP IT! STOP IT NOW!
And this is what they call the end.

C'est la Vie and I Love It

{I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine}
"Find a guy who calls you beautiful instead of hot, who calls you back when you hang up on him, who will stay awake just to watch you sleep. Wait for the guy who kisses your forehead, who wants to show you off to the world when you are in your sweats, who holds your hand in front of his friends, wait for the one who is constantly reminding you of how much he cares about you and how lucky he is to have you. Wait for the one who turns to his friends and says, "...that's her."
I have him in my life, and I am so grateful.

Daily Forecast: Storms For Next 4 Years

[Kapow]
University has sent me on an emotional rollarcoaster that I would love someone to explain to me. One day I'm happy: I have a job I love at the Sanderson Centre, I'm in the program I want to be in, School is paid for...kinda, I have a beautiful apartment with decent rent and some good new friends and some good old friends. Next day I'm down: I have no money - OSAP has not come through yet, school is a lot of reading, I have weight issues, things aren't exactly where I want to be in many of my relationships, my apartment is a mess - again, nothing to eat, I'm tired. BLAH BLAH BLAH. I think I have come to the conclusion that I am not insane even though my emotions seem to spirial out of control at the most inoppurtune times (is there such thing as an oppourtune time?), that I will survive university even if it kills me (yes I know...oxymoron...well I think YOUR a moron, so there), and that I'm going to make it after all. It's just going to be difficult. So to those that know me, first of all I send my condolensences, secondly I ask for your patience. If you really know me, you I am a tad paranoid, extremely sarcastic and difficult at times, stubborn as a really bad grass stain in my new jeans which I think I will never be able to wear again because its on the ass and it looks very incriminating and can be quite witty if I am awake. Which I hardly am. Anywho - I apologize and thank you for your support of the cause now formely known as "Get Holly Through University So She Can Make Lots of Money and Pay Off Her Debts and Buy a Mini Even Though She Needs to Get Her G1 First But That's Besides the Point" Cause.

[I'm moving on]

I've moved on - both geographicaly (is that a word) and mentally. This week I realize that I say goodbye to the same friends for a second time. I said goodbye to the way I knew them and now I say goodbye to them as they are at this moment. University has made me a different person and I am nieve to think that University has not shaped and reformed the friends of my past. I expect them to stay the same as I left them, so that one day when I go to visit I know where I am and who they are. But alas, I mourn my friends; they are gone. It has only been three weeks of university but the world that we once shared together is destroyed, I mourn that as well. Never again will I return home to the same crowd of friends, never again will the same twos be arm in arm, never again will the same jokes be funny, never again will I return to them and never again will they turn to me. It's only been a few weeks but we have grown up and grown apart. Those seperate paths that were for a brief time united have split, we all go our own ways and I miss the old you.

So dear friends may God hold you close and keep you even if you have given up the faith, even if you never had it. I pray that one day you too will find your home and that the storms don't shatter mine. You will never know how I feel but here it is anyways.
  • To J: My heart is still safe, yours has been torn - I'm so sorry I can't be there to hold your hand; you never liked the path I walked anyways.
  • To S: You have run away from everything you knew for the bright lights; that light isn't real you know - I hope someone breaks the bulbs and you see the truth again; God wants you back.
  • To I: You have betrayed and broken; I have no words for you except do unto others as you shall have them do unto you. Your turns next.
  • To A: You need help and I mean that in the nicest way possible. Your Dad is setting the example for your life and your blind to it. I thank God that you no longer can claim her as your own - I just pray she has the strength to get as far away from you as possible. I still dispise you for the way you treated her. I love her and so does God; touch her again and I will go ape on your ass.
  • To B: I love you and I hope God holds you as I can't anymore. I hope we stay united but time, distance and jealously, anger on my part have threatened that. I'm sorry. Even if we aren't meant to be close you will always be my friend. Take care always. Take care of yourself always.
  • To A: Know what you are dealing with before leading others to it. No more dancing around.
  • To M: I never liked you. And you continue to screw things up. Go. Figure.
  • To JP: You were a great person and I'm sorry how I acted sometimes. You are a nice person except many find you annoying. Try not to talk as much, you will get farther in life that way. Your faith is something to be envied. Keep up the good work. There is someone for you, just make sure you find her at church and not at McDonalds.

Poorness

[GROWL]

If I'm going to be poor why can't I be skinny? Doesn't that make sense? Poor ergo lack of money ergo no food ergo skinny. You would think thats the formula. Nope. Poor ergo lack of money ergo sanity to let myself not starve ergo not skinny. I want the Minus Freshman Fifteen. Not a big ass.

By the way I hate the loud tassholes outside my apartment at hours after midnight - screaming and being well tassholes. I wish I was a sniper. I would shoot them and go to sleep. Yes, I'm in a bad mood. Yes Virginia, there is a bitch.

The Student Life: First Apperance of Reality?

[What is reality? Are you sure?]
These are true.
I am in my third official week of university.
I have five classes.
I am broke.

These may or not be true.
University makes my faith rocky.
I'm scared to hand anything in.
Regardless of academia, I still go to school with idiots.
I had soup for lunch.

Which ones are true? What is the truth? How do you know? Are you really sure? What if you don't even exist? Maybe your head is in a jar and is stimulated by a super computer trying to just get you to think you are where you are. But your not. What is the Matrix?

Yes, I know what you are thinking and perhaps it is true...university has made me even more cynical, sarcastic, bitter and broke. But I feel smarter. Is it worth it?

Perhaps I should of taken my money (what money? oh ya, my parents oops!) and run off to Europe for a few years. Maybe I wouldn't be so cynical. Maybe I would. Maybe I would take up smoking, cause thats what they do in Europe. Who knows, who knows anything for sure?

Even Rene Descartes thinks he's sure but he is not. "I think therefore I am." Something that exists must be able to think, must'int it? No Rene, it doesn't - its called artifical intelligence - welcome to the Matrix.

I swear I'm not crazy but are you sure?

Things I've learned since being in University:
  1. OSAP is a bitch from hell. They like to not give you money. I'm still waiting for my reduced loan of $1400. What the F!
  2. When I'm broke but still have too much pride to wear clothes that I don't consider fashionable I wash them in my bathtub because I don't have to pay for water. I feel amish when I do it.
  3. Living at home is easy; so those that do shut the f up. People cook for you, generally supply you with food and laundry is done in a machine not a tub. I'm sorry for being angry but do you know how long it takes for jeans to drip dry?
  4. That I am a selfish human being. I have so much stuff yet I always want more. Why can't I just throw my education away, drop all my classes and feed a village in Africa for a millenium. Which will make a greater difference in the world? My education and what I will perhaps do with it in the future or giving life to an entire village? What makes me so special that I get to go to University and they starve?
  5. I think I know why genius' go insane. It's because they think too much. Like my previous questions. Erg.
  6. I bought a $180 textbook and a homeless woman asked me for money. How much would $180 do for that woman? I gave her my Tim Horton gift certificates; it would of been easier to ignore her than to give her those and see the joy $3 of food brings.
  7. I complain about not having groceries but she really doesn't. The guilt builds. Should I apologize for my education and relative wealth?
  8. If/when I become a millionaire, I am going to be excentric! I know it. But thats what rich genius' do. MUAH HA HA!
  9. Please don't call the people with the rubber room after reading this. I'm just venting. I'm not insane I promise, but do you really know what insane is?
  10. Everything is and is not relative. Wrap that around your mind. You can't. Its only a size 2, which is about the size of my ankle. Damn I'm going on a diet.
  11. I like lists.

18 is good. I like to vote. My back hurts. My uniform is drying. I like work. I like paycheck better. I have chicken in the fridge. Random Random thoughts.

The End. But is it really? How do you know? God, I hate/love philosophy class.

The Days Go By

I have not blogged in a while and such a shame; that I, a journalist, if only in name cannot lend herself to a few words of woe and glory; sit her butt down and tell her story. POEM'D! Anyways this will be a topical update on everything.

Work

Well my first day was how should we put it...interesting. What I thought would be a two hour shift turned into seven hours of ETA's or in normal speak: Elvis Tribute Artists. And these were hardcore Eli\vis' impersonators my dear. They sang, swang and swagged just like the King himself. Personally, I hate Elvis. My theroy is if he didn't die so "tragically" (overdosed and fat) and his fall from glory wasn't so large (no pun, wait...maybe a pun) he wouldn't have been so fondly remembered. Near the end Elvis wasn't so popular, he was a has been. But because he died in some way other than natural causes (what is unnatural about an overdose? he put too much crap into his body, his body said screw you and he naturally died) he wouldn't be immortalized to the same extent. Either way I really hate Elvis after working that shift.

Church
Yesterday was the first day in two weeks I have been able to get to church and was really looking forward to a good sermon. Instead Sarah and I went downstairs to help out with the little ones. After church I got to talking to Anita and her husband who looks like someone and today in about 40 minutes Sarah, Anita and I are going to paint part of the church. Yeah good deed for the day. I really really love church.

Weekend at Dave's - the Highlights

- Drinking coffee by the river then proceeding to make a "boat" afectionatly named coffee cup - made out of a coffee cup and four pennies. Then watching coffee cup till we could no longer see him - yes, him. Even Dave started refering to coffee cup as a he. LOL
- Throwing pennies into the river and making wishes.
- Running through the sprinkler at the park.

- Eating pitas in a new joint.

- Playing rummy in our pajamas and eating peanut butter cookies

- Just generally being happy.

School

I bought the first of my many textbooks and think they are wunderbar and interesting. Unfournutaly I cannot afford to eat if I buy anymore so I will not. *Sad face* But once I do, oh look out bank account! *Coming Attractions* Yesterday my aunt took me out for lunch and gave me awesome chocolates for my birthday. Today I paint church. Tomorrow I have nothing planned. Wednesday I go to some orientation thingies then Dave comes over. Thursday is my birthday! And Dave is over. Friday Dave is over because it is still my birthday damnit! Saturday Christine comes over! And I got to work. But we hang out when I get home and possibly play the Westlife drinking game! Cause its my birthday damnit! Sunday we go to church, hang out and she goes home *sad face* but school starts the next day! YEAH JOURNALISM! Then I go to school all week (and do all my homework immediately!) and I get picked up thursday night and go to baseball game in Toronto on Friday! Come back home, chill with Dave on Saturday then go to work. Sunday I go to church and go to work and do homework. YEAH! IM SO EXCITING! My life is getting better! Yeah for Wilfrid Laurier and Brantford and Dave and new friends and old friends- who actually visit me! Especially yeah for BIRTHDAY!

Where Have You Gone? I'm Not Forsaken

["But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." - Matt 6: 33-35]
The last few days have been good to me, God has blessed me with a fantastic job at the Sanderson Centre which reminds me again that God is so much smarter than me and I shouldn't doubt him. He knows what is best for me and trusting him is what I should do. That is something I'm going to be working on, because it seems as soon as something doesn't work out the way I like I go into WHY GOD, HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME? Mode. And I have to stop and trust.

He has blessed me so incredibly so far - my beautiful apartment, wonderful people I love including new friends and old, health, a good school with free education and I'm not half bad looking. So I'm going to try to stop complaining.

Anywho. I start work on Sunday! Whoot, I'm going to miss church which is sad because I really really really enjoy going there but alas. Oh and I get a new fridge! So I can actually store food in it. And I have plans for the weekend! YEAH!!!! Anywho, here are some more pictures.

This is a fountain outside of the courthouse which is to the left of my school, which is pictured below.

The first building is my school, the second is my church, the third is the student centre and the fourth is one of the residences. Aren't they pretty? They are all either heritage sites or brand new buildings built in the heritage style.

This is my schools main building, I can't wait to go to school just so I can spend time in this building.

This is my new church, Brant Community Church - Dave introduced this church to me through his co-worker. I absolutely love it here. Its not a big church but not a small one either. And the worship is really really good, they play classic rock lol.

This is the new student centre, I can't wait for it open either. I think there is supposed to be some sort of fitness centre in here, but its possible its in another new building that they are in the process of well, building.

I love it here.

Niagara Falls:
Natural Wonder or Tourist Blunder?

Niagara Falls: my first memories of the honeymoon capital of the world are full of water. I remember wearing "shopping bags" and going under the falls. I remember thinking to not drop my sunglasses over the rail. I remember seeing nature in its wonderous glory. What I do not remember? The commercialism that permanates this 'attraction' now. Were the bright lights, the rides such as the possibly related Over-the-falls IMAX ride and the not at all related HULK Ride and SPIDERMAN Adventure there when I was young? What does that have to do with this giant piece of nature? When I was walking around I noticed a booth selling disposable cameras for $20 by the park (goverment), is anyone accountable for this? I understand this may be to help with the local economy etc etc etc but that borders on a type of tourist blackmarket. And at $20 a pop you would expect the city to look a bit ...well...cleaner, safer, prettier...are words that come to mind. Ah well. Take a gander at commercialization at the falls below.For the tourists that don't understand the concept of falling to their death.
C.N Tower? Nope. Just another tall building trying to get you to pay to ride to the top and seeing the same thing you can do for free by walking.This is a representative of the Government of Ontario promoting tourism in the Niagara Region. Or a GIANT DANCING REESE'S CUP!
